  1. What is GreyListing Anti-Spam?

The GreyListing is a anti-spam system that is included within the BizMail. The new system dramatically reduces the amount of spam mail you receive. GreyListing is guaranteed to reduce the amount of spam mail by 98% and is a service which is completely free to our clients who utilize BizMail.

How GreyListing Works:GreyListing is a new method of blocking spam mail at the mail server level without having to go through a gruesome statistical analysis. GreyListing recognizes that spam mail does not behave like legitimate mail does. Typically, a server that utilizes GreyListing registers three pieces of information to run test.

    • IP address of the email
    • Email address of the sender
    • Email address of the recipient

When someone is set to receive an email GreyListing will compare the emailing client against an internal whitelist the mail server may have. If the sender is not recognized by the system then by default the email will be rejected and placed in a holding area. The assumption is that since the email was rejected and placed in a holding area a legitimate client will attempt to reconnect and send the email once more. This is an expensive but very effective tool in the battle against spam mail. This tool is effective because spammers do not preoccupy themselves with checking to see if the spam mail they sent was received.

  2. Why Am I Experiencing A Delay In My Emails?

GreyListing temporarily rejects any email it does not recognize and places the email into a temporary holding area. This temporary holding area is reserved for emails sent to the recipient for the very first time. If the email is not spam the mail server will attempt to resend the email. When this second email is sent, GreyListing will recognize the email and the email address and will no longer place the emails from that sender in a temporary holding area. This is the process used for validation of email addresses.

Note: Although it is not recommended GreyListing can be turned off. If you wish to turn off GreyListing you must go to your webmail for each account you wish to have GreyListing disabled from. Press the settings tab, there will be a combo box that you can click to have GreyListing disabled. Then simply save settings.
